What is Honeybee Schoolhouse?

We are an intimate home-based preschool in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Schoolhouse is an old fashioned term applied to a building(in this case a home) used as a school. We feel it describes our warm and loving environment that uplifts connection and concept-building through the domestic arts by an educated and dedicated team of teachers. The Honeybee is Oklahoma’s state insect and a symbol we often use as we look to nature for meaning and connection.

How old does a child need to be to attend Honeybee?

Honeybee accepts children ages two to five-years-old, enrolling them in the Spring prior to the start of their school year

How do I get on the Honeybee waiting list?

Due to our small ratios and mixed age group, we do not have a traditional waiting list. Fill out the application(found on the ‘Contact’ page) and send it back to us. We will date this and keep it on file until our February enrollment process begins. There is no deposit or fee until we have a place for your child.

How do you go about the enrollment process?

We open enrollment to the families currently at Honeybee in January, giving them time to make their selection for the coming school year. This tells us how many spots are available to offer. Beginning February, we begin calling those families on the waiting list to schedule a tour.

If a family's needs and our offerings are compatible,  we will send an email inviting the family to  join us at Honeybee Schoolhouse.  We will allow the family a brief window of time to accept or decline my offer.  Should a family choose to accept the offered position, we need to receive a Security Deposit in the amount of one month of tuition and a signed Child Care Contract, in order to secure their spot.

Can I tour Honeybee?

Our tour season is in the Spring each year. To be put on the waiting list for a tour, please send an application via email or snail mail.

What are Honeybee’s hours of operation?

Our operating hours are from 7:45 A.M. - 5:15 P.M. The Honeybee calendar mirrors the Tulsa Public Schools calendar, with the addition of summer camps.

What curriculum do you use?

We do not use a commercial curriculum, we truly believe that “children learn what they live and live what they learn.”

Our program reflects our teaching experiences and education in Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, and Montessori philosophies. We value routine structured around the holistic well-being of every child and a daily rhythm that uplifts the wonders of childhood and curiosities of the day.

Connections are enriched through the domestic arts, intentional movement exercises, and other more traditional guided activities. Connections are also enriched by free play, access to beautiful learning materials, and the loving/trusting relationships built in a mixed age group.

What meals are served? Are you allergy-friendly?

We provide fresh, organic foods for breakfast, morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack. The children help with meal preparation, before enjoying a family style lunch together. We are a proud participant in the Childcare Resource Center food program. While we have strict guidelines to adhere to, we are open to creative solutions and an honest dialogue about how to be more safe and inclusive.

Do you take the children outside every day?

YES! Children enjoy daily access(lightning and other dangerous conditions will keep us indoors) to our outdoor play area. We love dirt, our garden, our swings, and all of the birds and bugs who come to visit!

What is the student/teacher ratio?

Honeybee has one teacher for every six children, with at least two teachers available throughout the day.
